LEGION Movie Review

Dragged my butt off the couch today to hit the theatre and check out the latest religious apocalypse flick to hit theatres LEGION. I went into Book of Eli not expecting anything religious but left feeling ‘anointed’ in holy doctrine. Legion at least when I went in I knew I was going to be having a religious experience as Angels set forth to kick mankind’s ass.

Unlike in Book of Eli though LEGION does not try to preach to you, it doesn’t try to sell you on the power of religion, it simply unloads with a big can of whoop ass as the entire world is wiped out. The first time mankind lost faith in humanity he sent a flood and in LEGION God takes it one step further sending Angels to not just kill off humanity but to exterminate it.

Scripted by Stewart and Peter Schink, the thriller casts Bettany as the archangel Michael, the only one standing between mankind and an apocalypse, after God loses faith in humanity. Man’s lone hope rests with a group of strangers who must deliver a baby they realize is Christ in his second coming.

LEGION is a mix of End of Days and The Prophecy and its nonstop action from start to finish. I know alot of people loved The Prophecy but hated End of Days but for me both were fantastic films. I think End of Days is easily one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best films hands down and The Prophecy is easily one of the best religious horror films ever made. So when I say LEGION is a mix of both it is a compliment to say the least. Worth noting that The Prophecy is a far superior film in its writing but the overall vibe and tone is very similar to LEGION.

The story in Legion is quite basic the action is intense and LEGION delivers what most action junkies want. Lots and lots of action with no long winded speeches or over the top cliché moments you see coming 4 miles away. That all said if you go into Legion expecting a horror movie you may walk away disappointed. There are plenty of demons, lots of carnage and as noted at least four times now LOTS of action but LEGION is anything but scary.

Legion is a nice mix of funny one liners, creepy demons, explosive action and a whole lot of religious wrath making if a fun experience well worth watching for those who love a good flick about God kicking mankind’s ass!
